Meet Shauna Sadowski - Sustainability Integration Lead at Improvin'.
Shauna has dedicated her career to making a positive impact on food systems. Out-of-office, you’ll likely find her diving into the waters on Sweden’s west coast or whipping up seasonal dishes with her family. 🥕
Shauna, what makes work at Improvin’ exciting?
I’ve spent the past 20 years working at the intersection of food, agriculture and sustainability, first in consulting and later with various food companies.
My work has focused on raising awareness, building evidence-based programs, and working with stakeholders to drive positive change.
Data plays a key role in business decisions, and sustainability is equally reliant on data. However, sustainability data is less developed relative to financial data.
Improvin’ helps businesses acquire farm-level data, enabling the companies to foster deeper supply chain relationships instead of chasing numbers – and that’s incredibly exciting.
What made you choose Improvin’?
Improvin’ combines a unique understanding of farming and trade relationships, with in-depth knowledge of the digital landscape.
It’s easy to talk about the importance of tech and AI while forgetting the reality of work in the fields.
Growing seasons have a rhythm and change takes time. Luckily, technology can enhance our understanding and accelerate change.
What I value most is how we involve farmers, giving them a real voice. Trust from farmers is crucial in this shift: they are a key part of the solution.
Your thoughts about the team? 🌱
I’m so inspired by our diverse team whereby each person brings their own unique knowledge and talents, with a shared passion for sustainability.
I feel a sense of pride in solving this global challenge together. No one needs convincing to care.
I also see curiosity and fresh perspectives in our team, and I believe this is key to success in our line of work.
What are your out-of-office interests?
Well, food is what I’m into!
In my family, we strive to cook with the seasons, buying directly from farmers and celebrating fresh finds. I am that weird person who will happily stroll the grocery store aisles and food markets looking for new and interesting brands and ingredients.
Water is my happy place: swimming in pools, seas and lakes is where I feel most connected. My swimming team gives me a strong sense of community.
I’ve been living on Sweden’s west coast for almost 3 years. Moving from California was a big change, and I’ve been noting down my observations in a Substack.
Writing has been a great creative outlet.
3 things that excite you right now?
🚜 It’s exciting to see how farming is starting to take its place at the center of the food system transformation.
🍂 Personally, I’m winding down from a busy summer and embracing the autumn cooling season.
💚 This winter, I look forward to celebrating the seasonal shift with my family, spending time outdoors and inside by a cozy fire.
