Meet Jason Brooks - Software Lead at Improvin'
Meet Improvin's Software Lead Jason, born and raised in Katonah/NY, now settled in Stockholm. Growing up, Jason wanted to be a zoologist but, lucky for us, he picked up programming and became a software engineer instead.
Hi Jason! What’s most exciting about your role?
Definitely using cool tech to solve cool problems, with cool people. It feels great knowing that our work has a positive impact on the world.
Could you please explain what you do to a 5-year-old?
Well, I am both the architect and the carpenter for digital buildings and infrastructure. We build the structure of the house, we make it look pretty and we make sure it can stand on its own.
You’ve recently gotten into sewing. Could you tell us more about that?
Sewing is really cool. I’ve always liked making things, but before moving to Sweden I had actually never done anything with a sewing machine.
The biggest motivation for me is definitely the social sustainability aspect of it. I have an agreement with myself only to buy second-hand, or buy high-quality garments with transparency on how the companies source and make their products.
Clothing can hold a special place in one’s life. It feels nice to be able to extend the life of your favorite pieces. It’s great being able to help your friends do it, too.
3 things that excite you right now?
🤖 Democratization of creation, driven by AI. Language learning models give people more power to create things and reduce all the boring stuff.
🏡 I just bought my first apartment and I’m really looking forward to designing my own living space. I can’t wait to have people over for sauna evenings.
🧗 I’ve been enjoying climbing lately, which I’ve realized is such a programmer thing. For me, it’s one of the healthiest all-around ways to exercise and have fun at the same time.
